Genocide and “total war” is mostly a 20th century invention; before then war against distant people was an expensive operation conducted by a small military force sent on ships. But fast transport made it possible to conduct war against distant people, who could be villanized as foreign and strange people who needed to be removed from the earth. It is a lot easier to eliminate people you have never met before.
It is easy for con-artists to convince a President and nation to do awful things if you do not identify the confidence worker as a con-artist. The 20th century was the birth of the “economic miracle”, a wield belief that every human being on the planet can enjoy ever-increasing material wealth; we have expanded our populations and expectations in accord. And the result is that such expectations facilitate war; like the Nazi and Pacific wars of conquest, and like the economic ‘games’ since.
Obama is proving efficient at dodging the genocide questions. When Congressman Eni Faleomavaega asked about West Papua and holding Indonesia accountable for its continued human rights abuses in this colony; Clinton instead talked of a “delicate nature of what is at stake here” and claimed West Papua is “part of sovereign Indonesia”.
West Papua is a colony, which the US unfortunately coerced the Netherlands to trade to Indonesia in 1962. Since 1959 the Freeport corporation wanted to mine West Papua’s gold and copper, in 1967 General Suharto sold mining rights to the US corporation. In 1969 Brig. General Sarwo Edhie Wibowo selected a thousand people who were instructed to tell the United Nations observer that West Papua wanted to be under Indonesian rule.
The US sacrifice West Papua because President elect Kennedy listened to the advise of Freeport director Robert Lovett to appoint his friend McGeorge Bundy as the US National Security Adviser over the NSC.
The Third World War is a secret war, for fifty years is used the “Cold War” as cover, and now it uses the ‘War against Terrorism’ as cover to distract people from their loss of quality of life, human values; and a obedience to the economic miracle.
